Custom software for education

We build software for schools, multi-academy trusts, colleges and training providers: admin and approval workflows, integrations with your MIS, evidence and compliance tracking, and tools for learners and parents. Safeguarding and data protection requirements shape the design from the start.

Systems we build

Typical education projects. Each is scoped to your process, not a template.
  • Multi-Academy Trust Analytics Dashboard

A centralised reporting platform that pulls data from every school in a trust regardless of their MIS provider, enabling trust leaders to compare performance, attendance, and exclusion data across schools and identify trends requiring intervention.

  • AI-Powered Adaptive Learning Platform

A personalised learning system that adjusts content difficulty, pacing, and teaching style based on individual student performance data. Uses spaced repetition algorithms and formative assessment analytics to optimise knowledge retention.

  • Digital Safeguarding and Concern Recording System

A secure platform for recording safeguarding concerns with chronological timelines, risk assessment scoring, multi-agency referral workflows, and management oversight dashboards. Meets all requirements of KCSIE 2024.

  • Virtual Learning Environment with Assessment Integration

A comprehensive online learning platform with content authoring, video hosting, discussion forums, assignment submission, automated marking for objective assessments, and plagiarism detection integration.

Problems we hear about

The issues that usually prompt the first conversation.
  • Multi-academy trusts managing dozens of schools need centralised data systems but face incompatible MIS platforms across their estate, making group-level reporting difficult
  • Safeguarding requirements under KCSIE 2024 demand robust digital systems for recording concerns, sharing information with local authorities, and maintaining single central records of staff checks
  • Ofsted inspection readiness requires schools to produce evidence of curriculum intent, implementation, and impact across subjects, which is difficult without integrated assessment data
  • Student engagement and retention in further and higher education requires personalised learning pathways and early intervention systems that identify at-risk learners before they drop out
  • SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision requires coordinated Education, Health and Care Plan management across multiple agencies and service providers

Off-the-shelf or custom?

Schools have well-established MIS, VLE and safeguarding products, and we would not suggest replacing them. Custom software is useful for the gaps between them: trust-wide reporting, workflows unique to your setting, and joining up data that currently lives in spreadsheets.

Rules we design around

Legislation and standards that commonly shape systems in this sector. We design with them in mind; your compliance advisers have the final word.
  • UK GDPR with specific provisions for children's data
  • KCSIE 2024 (Keeping Children Safe in Education)
  • DfE Information Management Strategy
  • Children and Families Act 2014 (SEND provisions)
  • Age Appropriate Design Code (ICO Children's Code)
  • Ofsted Education Inspection Framework
  • Prevent Duty under Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015
  • Equality Act 2010 accessibility requirements

Common questions

Can Elsio integrate with school MIS systems like SIMS, Arbor, and Bromcom?
Yes. Elsio integrates with UK school MIS platforms via APIs including Wonde (which provides a universal API for SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom, and others), GroupCall Xporter, and direct database connections where API access is not available.
How does Elsio ensure safeguarding compliance in education software?
All education software handling student data follows KCSIE 2024 requirements including role-based access controls, secure concern recording, audit trails, encrypted data storage, and DBS check verification for staff access. Systems are designed with the principle of minimal data access.
Does Elsio understand the Department for Education data standards?
Yes. Elsio builds to DfE Common Basic Data Set standards, supports census return data requirements, and ensures compatibility with the DfE Sign-in service and Information Management Strategy.
Can Elsio build platforms that meet Ofsted digital evidence requirements?
Yes. Elsio develops curriculum mapping and assessment tracking tools that help schools generate evidence portfolios demonstrating curriculum intent, implementation, and impact. This supports preparation for both Section 5 and Section 8 Ofsted inspections.
Does Elsio work with universities as well as schools?
Yes. Elsio works with universities, further education colleges, and training providers. Higher education projects include student information systems, research management platforms, timetabling tools, and learning analytics dashboards.
